Backing the Leaders Growing Latin America’s Plant-Based Movement: Introducing Thrive LATAM

One of Thrive LATAM Workshop Session facilitated by Tania Luna and Sharleen from Scarlet Spark.

In Latin America, more people are choosing plant-based food, and more advocates are stepping up to build the food systems that make it possible. But a movement this fast-growing needs more than energy. Many of the groups leading it are small, passionate teams without the training to fundraise, plan strategically, or lead through growth. Thrive LATAM was created to change that.hat is holding them back. What we heard will shape how Thrive grows in Asia over the coming years.

Introducing Thrive LATAM

Thrive LATAM is our new department dedicated to supporting the movement building just, sustainable, and plant-based food systems across Latin America. Our goal is simple: to meet advocates where they are, in their language and in their context, and to give them the tools to grow their organizations and the change they are working toward.

A growing movement with two gaps

The plant-based food systems movement in Latin America is growing quickly. But many of the groups leading it are facing real challenges. In our conversations with advocates, two gaps came up again and again.

  • The first is skills: many advocates have never had the chance to learn how to fundraise, plan strategically, or lead an organization as it grows.

  • The second is funding: many groups are doing great work with very limited resources. Skills and funding go together, and without both, good organizations get stuck.

Thrive LATAM exists to help close both gaps.

From Strategy to Impact Intensive

Our first step was the From Strategy to Impact Intensive, a three-session workshop series facilitated by our partner, Scarlet Spark, and designed to build the organizational and leadership skills that groups need to grow:

  • Strategy and Goals. Setting a clear direction and turning it into goals your team can act on.

  • Role Clarity and Decision-Making. Building teams where everyone knows their role and decisions move forward.

  • Leadership Skills. Strengthening the leadership that keeps organizations resilient and effective.

Every session is held in English with real-time Spanish translation, so language is never a barrier to taking part.

The response showed how real the need is. 39 advocates from 12 countries across Latin America and beyond registered, and we are only getting started. Participants joined from Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Ecuador, Guatemala, Mexico, Peru, Uruguay, the United Kingdom, and China.
