2) Each quarter (approx Jan., April, July, Oct.), you’ll receive an email describing approximately 3 organizations from 3 countries and you vote on the group you’d like to receive the Thrive Community Grant! The grants ranges up to $5000 USD and the amount varies depending on availability.

3) The group with the highest votes is offered the Thrive Community Grant in addition to their regular Thrive grant!

And to make the process even more inclusive and impactful, Thrive’s grantees join the vote to co-lead Thrive Community Grant decisions, ensuring those with lived experience - the grantees themselves - voices are heard.

Grant decision-making is typically held by major foundations and major donors. Thrive aims to create more equitable processes, dismantle power imbalances, and elevate voices that have been historically excluded. Thrive Community Grantmaker gives small-scale donors and grantees the opportunity to collectively guide part of Thrive’s grant decision-making. We believe that by tapping into regional expertise of those with lived experience and our small-scale donors, we ensure grantmaking is directed as effectively as possible to improve food systems worldwide.

Thrive has about approximately 100 grantees each year, to ensure the Thrive Community Grant is as fair as possible, 3 current Thrive grantees are randomly selected to be voted upon for the Thrive Community Grant. Each group has been thoroughly vetted by Thrive and can effectively use the additional grant.

Yes! All groups that are selected for the Thrive Community Grant are existing Thrive grantees that have went through Thrive’s rigorous vetting and due diligence process and have been deemed to make good use of additional funding.

Not at all! The Thrive Community Grant is in addition to a grantee’s regular grant from Thrive Philanthropy. Think of it as an unexpected extra funding.
